The Early Years

April 2003. Whitney was was 5 years old. She looks so SMALL!

We had A TERRIFIC show at Rio Vista, and it was even more exciting because it was Whitney's first show over fences with her new ponies.

The day started out with a big win for Whitney & Sugar, they won the Hunters Under Saddle out of 16 & were the only pony in there! Talk about unheard of! Whitney went on to take 2nd over fences & 5th in the flat equitation. When Sugar was done, she emerged

SHOW CHAMPION HUNTER

  In her under saddle class

Our little Sugar beat all the horses!

Sparky was next and also started out by winning the Under saddle with 14 riders in the class! So exciting. She was 3rd over fences & 4th in the equitation, and ended up RESERVE SHOW CHAMPION HUNTER on Sparky. All in all, a great first show!

RESERVE SHOW CHAMPION HUNTER

WE LOVE OUR PONIES!

May 30th  2003  Kingsbridge

Another super day at the show, Whitney is going to think it always goes this way!

We started the day on Sparky this time & Whitney cantered full courses for the first time. She was so awesome, not one major mistake! She & Mr. McCool were 3rd & 4th in the Hunters Over Fences, and 2nd in the under saddle, making them RESERVE SHOW CHAMPIONS ONCE AGAIN! Whitney placed 4th in the equitation over fences & 5th in the Eq. on the flat.

Next it was Sugar's turn.  After a shaky start with the cantering of Sugar, Whitney came back to be 4th in the Hunters Over Fences & 2nd in the Under Saddle. The best part of the day was Whitney winning the Equitation over fences & the Equitation on the flat!!!!!

That made her Show Champion Equitation rider. SO COOL! Way to go Whitney!

All of Whitney's best friends came out & braved the heat ALL DAY! We thank you so much for supporting your friend at the show!!!

JUNE 21st 2003 Southwind

This show was quite a ways away from our house, but Whitney being the trooper she is, was up and at 'em at 5:30 A.M. ready to go with a big smile! We worked really hard to get ready for this show and all of her hard efforts paid off again!

Sugar was first up this time and won a 5th in the Hunters Over Fences as well as 2nd in the Under Saddle. Whitney rode Sugar in her flat Equitation and won 1st Place!

Sparky was up next and was super again! He was 2nd & 3rd  in Hunters over fences and Whitney chose to ride Sparky in the Equitation over fences this show. She was 2nd! We found a friend to ride Sparky in the Under Saddle for us and she did such a lovely job of riding, she won 1st Place! Thank you Maddy for keeping up Sparky's points.

At the end of the day, we ended up with a Show Championship in the Equitation riding Sugar, and Sparky was Reserve Show Champion Hunter for the 3rd show in a row. Let's try for Champion next time!

August 30th 2003 at Rio Vista

Another day,,,,,,,another Reserve Championship for Sparky!!!

It was a very HOT day at Rio Vista this Saturday,

but we managed to have a good time anyway. Poor Sugar,,,,,who knew she was just 9 days away from having her baby! What a good girl she was to go around so well for Whitney!

Whitney started the day off in the flats, that had about 18 riders! Maddie was nice enough to ride Sparky for us again since they did not split the class. Both Sparky and Sugar placed 3rd in the Under Saddle, beating out lots of fine horses & ponies. Thanks to Maddie for a beautiful ride on Sparky! Both girls did a great job riding in this VERY crowded arena!

Click on either image for a larger view.

If you look close, you can see both girls in the line up.

Maddie followed that up by winning the flat Equitation on Sparky! Go Maddie.

Whitney was not as fortunate, so we're pretty sure the judge was napping every time she rode by!

(It's a JOKE people!, Get some humor in your life!)

Whitney jumped Sugar 1st this day & rode some pretty good rounds. She ended up with a 3rd in the Hunters Over Fences & 5th in the Eq, Over Fences on Sugar. I know,,,,,,,,,,,it's the 1st time in a long time she did not emerge Show Champion Equitation Rider,,,,,,,,,,,but it's good for her not to ALWAYS be champ. I know she doesn't agree though.

Not bad however, considering no one knew poor Sugy was pregnant!

Next was Sparky.

Whitney put down 2 lovely rounds over fences & was 2nd & 3rd! That gave her the RESERVE SHOW CHAMPIONSHIP for the Hunters. That's the 4th time this year! Talk about consistency. This pony gets better & better every show too! She also placed 5th in the Equitation Over Fences on Sparky. Actually, she was soooooo good, we let her move up to the 2' Division on him. She had some pretty nice rounds for her first time and Sparky gave some lovely flying lead changes! Whitney was 6th in the Hunters Over Fences & 5th again in the Equitation Over Fences. As for the flats, she took 2nd in the Under saddle & 3rd in the Equitation. Pretty darn good for her first walk/trot/canter classes on Sparky! She didn't miss one lead! GO WHITNEY!

Sorry I don't have more action photos, but it's really hard to be the mom, the trainer, the videographer & the photographer! I'll try for more action shots at the next show!

October 2003

Whitney ending her year of crossrails and starting the 2' with no change of direction

FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!

Sparky breaks through to Champion & in a BIG way!!!!!

We took both Sparky & Sugar to the show today (yes, Jack too) and both ponies were FANTASTIC! Jack was the hit of the show, of course! Sugar started the day off & Whitney rode beautifully! She laid down 3 perfect rounds. Her hard work was really showing.

Jack was so sweet!           New stuff to see!

Sparky was also wonderful. I know we're getting used to his by now, but he was sooooooo good! He put down 3 great rounds, thanks to fabulous riding by Whitney and was duly rewarded. He took 1st, & 3rd in the Hunters O/F, & 4th in the Under Saddle. Yes, I know he was robbed in the hack, but he still took SHOW CHAMPION Hunter!!! Yea Sparky! After a year of Reserves we finally broke through.

Whitney was 1st in the Equitation Over Fences & 2nd in the Equitation Flat!!!! Yea Whitney! See, I told you she rode beautifully today! She was SHOW CHAMPION Equitation Rider on Sparky for the day. DOUBLE CHAMPIONSHIPS! GO Whitney! WE LOVE OUR SPARKY!

TSSA FINALS Nov. 8th 2003

We were really looking forward to this show and all of Whitney's hard work really showed! I can't even explain how proud of her I am! She really has progressed through this year and was very deservedly Show Champion Hunter on Sugar this time. I think Sugar has had enough of us talking about Sparky & all of his Show Championships! She had to just show the boys how it's done. After all, let's not forget our little Sugar started the year out Show Champion & was pregnant all year!

Nice way to start and finish your year Sugar!

Whitney really showed Sugar off to her best potential this show and came away with

a 1st and 3rd in the Hunters Over Fences, as well as 2nd in the Under saddle. As usual, Sugar was the tiniest one out there, but that never stops her! I must say too that Whitney rode her ring beautifully! The riders on the coasts better look out, this kid is gunning for them in the future. (not that I'm a prejudiced mom or anything!)

Sugar was SHOW CHAMPION Hunter this time.

Sparky did not do quite as well as we are used to seeing this time out. He had a lovely first round & got 3rd, but he actually dropped a rail in his second round & that put him 5th. Oh well, that's OK Sparky, we know you're not a machine! (Maybe Sugar threatened him before the show!) He was 3rd in the Under Saddle.

EQUITATION:

Whitney split her rides this show, something new for her. She rode Sparky in the over fences and WON IT! I was so proud! She laid down a really lovely go from beginning to end, complete with sitting trot entrance & exit. She then rode Sugar in the flat and was 3rd. (Of course, you know I think she should have won, but I AM the mom) She rode very very well! She ended up

RESERVE SHOW CHAMPION EQUITATION RIDER

(AGAIN) GO WHIT WHIT!

Since she did so well today, she convinced me to let her try the 2' division. She was a little rattled the first 2 rounds and Sparky was his usual awesome self! He picked all the spots and tried to help Whitney around the courses, it was really cute! Whitney really composed herself for the 3rd round, which was the Eq. She laid down a beautiful round with not 1 mistake, complete with flying changes. She ended up 2nd!!!! Awesome for only her 2nd time trying the 2'. She also was 2nd in the flat Eq. which made her RESERVE SHOW CHAMPION Eq. Rider for the 2' division.

So, we ended the day with 2 firsts, 3 seconds, 4 thirds, one fourth, one 5th, and

3 CHAMPIONSHIPS. We love those tri-colors!

March 2004, we moved up to 2'

It was a great start to the new year for Whitney and Sparky. Whitney and her super pony Sparky made the move up to the 2 foot and 2'3" division this year and handled the move very well! She had lovely rounds and fantastic flying lead changes! She also rode some pretty impressive flat classes for her first time doing the walk, trot, canter classes.

When it was all over she took 2 firsts & a fifth!

Whitney was on the only pony!

She won the Hunters Over Fences and the Equitation Flat. She had some very minor mistakes that kept her out of the ribbons in some of the classes & she was very close to a show championship. I know she'll be winning the whole division before the year is over.

SUPER JOB Whitney & Sparky

It was a fun day at the show! We can't wait to go again!

May 2004 Kingsbridge

Whitney's friend Eric had some fun with Sugar!               Whitney's FAVORITE friend Brad came to see her!

We had a blast at the show today and want to thank EVERYONE for coming.

Big Eric & Little Eric made the drive from Cedar Creek to see Whitney do her thing, and Todd stopped by on his way to Fort Hood and watched for a few hours too.

In between riding her tail off, Whitney had lots of fun with all of our friends who came to see her ride. Brad, Todd, Eric, Little Eric, Rachel, and Shanna all came to see Whitney ride. Whitney rode both ponies this time and did beautifully! Sugar was fantastic in the 2 foot and the 2'3"! She acted like she's been jumping it all along. You'd never know she just came off 6 months of vacation!

Her last round of 2'3" she landed on every lead correctly and ended up 5th.

Sparky was terrific as well. He also jumped both the 2 foot and 2'3" classes and did so beautifully. The only thing that kept him out of the ribbons was a few missed lead changes. As soon as Whitney figures out how to get those in every corner, she will definitely be winning at this level! Alyssa O'Connell was nice enough to hack Sparky in the Under Saddle for us and did such a fabulous job of showing him off to the judge, she took 3rd out of 20 or so in the class! Thank you Alyssa,,,,,,I'll be looking for you again!

August 28th 2004

Rio Vista

Sorry this took so long, we still can't find our pictures! Whitney rode the best she ever has this day and laid down 8 awesome trips. She showed Sparky in the 2' and 2'3", and Sugar in the 2'

Sugar was FANTASTIC this day! Well, she's always good but she was just an angel today. She didn't take any ribbons over fences, but only because she doesn't know full flying changes yet. Everything else was PERFECT. Whitney did an outstanding job. She did take 2nd in the Under Saddle however, beating out some very nice horses. It was a big class, and Whitney rode it beautifully!

Sparky was terrific as well, and he took several good ribbons over fences. Whitney won the equitation over fences in the 2' division which was SO exciting! That made her SHOW CHAMPION EQUITATION rider! Our first championship this year! Yeah! She also took 5ths & 6ths in every round both in the 2' Hunters & 2'3" Hunters.

FINALS November 6th 2004

Expo Center

A perfect ending to a great year! Whitney did a beautiful job showing the ponies again and was rewarded for it nicely!

She rode Sugar in the 2' Hunter Division and put down 3 great rounds. Sugar took a 5th & 6th over fences and Whitney took 2nd in the Equitation over Fences! When it came to the hack, Sugar was 3rd in the Under Saddle and Whitney was 2nd in the Flat Equitation. I can't say enough about this little pony,,,,,she just knows her job and does it every time. I can't wait for her to learn those flying changes! Whitney took the

Reserve Champion Equitation Rider

in the 2 foot division!

Then it was Sparky's turn in the 2'3" Division. Thank goodness they had a warm up class at this show! After an iffy round in the warm up, Whitney & Sparky put in some lovely rounds. Sparky took a 2nd in the Hunters Over Fences out of a very nice class! Those were all the over fences ribbons for this pair that day, but they had some nice rounds. In the hack they made up for it! Sparky won the Under Saddle & Whitney won the Flat Equitation. Those 2 Hunter placings were enough to put Sparky on top for the day and he emerged

SHOW CHAMPION 2'3" HUNTER!!!

Go Sparky!

As usual, we had LOTS of friends there to cheer her on. Thank you to Big Eric, Little Eric, Karen, Alexis, Gannon, and Martha for coming out to support Whitney. We really appreciate it and hope to see you next year at some more shows!

After the show, everyone came over to celebrate. We did some Cotton Eyed Joe in the living room, then had a game of cards. It was a great night & Whitney never did take her

show clothes off!

That's the end of the 2004 Show season. Thanks again to everyone who came to see us and help out. Stop by our ranch any time!
